CHAD on TRUTH:

          In John 18, Jesus is talking to the Roman governor, Pilate, right before his execution. In their conversation, Jesus tells him that he has come to witness to the truth and that “everyone who cares for truth, who has any feeling for the truth, recognizes my voice.” Then Pilate asks, “What is truth?”

          People really haven’t stopped asking that question since. Mankind has done everything from giving their lives to building seminaries in the hopes of answering that all-important question: does truth exist, can it be known, /what is truth?/ Almost everyone has an answer. Problem is, lots of those people have completely different answers. Some say truth is up to you, others say it can only be discerned through deep study of their particular beliefs or doled out like potato salad by authority figures. It’s enough to make you wonder sometimes. So… what is truth? And if truth exists, (and I believe it does) how can one know it? I think Jesus answered that question in his statement to Pilate: If you care about the truth, if you want truth, you’ll know His voice. Jesus is the ultimate decider of truth. There are lots of voices vying for our attention. Many of them claim to have the truth, but only one of them does: Jesus. It’s His voice we are straining to hear above the din.

          That straining, that search for Truth, is an abandonment of the ego as well as our personal biases and desires. It is willingness to see ourselves and the world as we really are; as God says we are, whether we like what we find or not, and to still desire more. It is shedding the pretense of degrees or position or perceived authority and walking humbly before our God to hear His words alone. What is Truth? Truth is Jesus. Not as we define Him, but as the Master and Creator of all that is defines Himself. John 14:6.

jeremy: Silence

Sometimes God doesn't give us anything to say, and I think I'm there this week.  And I believe that it is wise in those times not to speak. So I will leave you with this:

My heart is not proud, O LORD,
       my eyes are not haughty;
       I do not concern myself with great matters
       or things too wonderful for me.

 But I have stilled and quieted my soul;
       like a weaned child with its mother,
       like a weaned child is my soul within me.

 O Israel, put your hope in the LORD
       both now and forevermore

Psalm 131

Selah.

    -JEREMY
